A wide repertoire is performed in varied art forms by art troupes of the city. These include the Yangju Opera, Shaoxing Opera, Xiju Opera, Danju Opera, ballad-Singing troupe, and the Song and Dance Ensemble, Fashion Show Performing Team, and the Red Ties Art Troupe under the children's Palace. Also popular among these are the Yangju Opera Troupe of Jin School and Wang Xiaotang's Story telling in yangzhou dialect of the Zhenjiang Ballad-singing Troupe with strong local flavor.
The celebrated Yangju opera artist Jin Yungui(1906-1970) has in her lifetime spared no effort to perfect her skills and created the outstanding Jindiao Tune for the Yangju opera. She enjoyed a big fame among her audience because of her unique and elegant singing.
The Zhenjiang Yangju opera Troupe has successfully performed classic operas including Er Du Mei, Fang Qing Embarrasses His Aunt, Choosing a son-in law, Monks and Nuns Descend from Mountain, Watching the Lantern Show and Bao Gong Blames Himself. It also stages such modern theatrical pieces as Red Genealogy and Friendship on Jingjiang River much to the welcome of Zhenjiang People. Noted Yangju opera artists include Xiao Ronggui, Yao Gonglin and Jin Guifen.
The well-known storyteller Wang Xiaotang heads the Zhenjiang Ballad-singing Troupe. He is the son of the deceased story telling Master Wang Shaotang. He has inherited his family style of telling the story of the Outlaws of the Marsh. He is able to give the audience vivid pictures of the heroes in the story with perfect skills. His repertories include Wu Song, Songjiang, Shi Xiu and Lu Junyi. He enjoys a prominent place in the country's story telling circle.
